Pokemon Lazarus Gym Leaders Guide

Prepare for every Pokemon Lazarus Gym Leader battle with level targets, team breakdowns, weather gimmicks, and counter strategies tailored to the Ilios Region’s adaptive AI.

Gym Leader Overview

Level Curve Overview

Expect increments of 4–6 levels between gyms. Optional level caps can be toggled at Lazarus Labs to keep your party synced.

Weather Mechanics

Every leader manipulates weather—the earlier gyms swap sun/rain, midgame introduces hail and sand, and late-game stacks dual terrains.

Badge Requirements

Complete civic quests, restore weather cores, or rescue NPCs before challenging each gym. Skipping objectives locks the arena doors.

Gym Leaders

Leader 1 – Team & Counters

Rona (Sunbreak Port) swaps between sun and drizzle using Solrock + Ludicolo.

  • Lead with Storm Drain Lapras or Dry Skin Croagunk to neutralize water spam.
  • Use Rock Tomb or Icy Wind to slow her Swift Swim abusers.
  • Pack Lumina Berries to cure burns from Solar Beam combos.

Leader 2 – Team & Counters

Atlas (Crystal Expanse) relies on Aurora Veil and freeze support.

  • Bring Steel- or Fire-types with priority to break Aurora Veil instantly.
  • Equip Covert Cloak or Echo Berry to block secondary freeze effects.
  • Set up Sunny Day to cancel hail and weaken Blizzard accuracy.

Leader 3 – Team & Counters

Serra (Sirocco Ridge) stacks sandstorm chip with Spikes and Sand Rush.

  • Use Magic Guard Clefable or Overcoat Bronzong to ignore sand damage.
  • Defog immediately—her Excadrill runs Sash + Rapid Spin to punish hazard wars.
  • Water- or Grass-types with priority (Aqua Jet, Grassy Glide) check Sand Rush threats.

Leader 4 – Team & Counters

Admiral Varys runs doubles battles with mirrored weather.

  • Tailwind + spread damage punishes his Protect loops.
  • Use Wide Guard to block Surf + Hurricane combos.
  • Equip Safety Goggles to avoid sand/hail chip while focusing on one target at a time.

Leader 5 – Team & Counters

Lyra (Skyborne Bastion) rotates terrains to amplify priority and sound moves.

  • Bring Terrain Extender of your own to overwrite her cycle.
  • Soundproof mons block Boomburst; Quick Guard stops priority spam.
  • Save your Mega for the final mirror match where she copies your lead.

Leader 6 – Team & Counters

Forge Master Dorian relies on Trick Room + Heat Bloom boosts.

  • Taunt or Encore the Trick Room setter to regain speed control.
  • Bulky Water- and Ground-types shrug off Heat Bloom stacks.
  • Knock Off his Iron Ball gimmick to prevent surprise speed control.

Leader 7 – Team & Counters

Oracle Mira uses Future Sight layers and Psychic Terrain.

  • Dark-types and Protect stall out Future Sight bursts.
  • Apply constant pressure with U-turn or Knock Off to break screens.
  • Carry Shed Shell to escape Arena Trap variants on her lead.

Leader 8 – Team & Counters

Eclipse Twins fight as a double battle mixing sun, rain, and sand simultaneously.

  • Wide coverage is mandatory; dual weather counter cores (Torkoal + Pelipper) help.
  • Run clerics for instant status cures—Twins spam Thunder Wave and Will-O-Wisp.
  • After badge 8, they offer rematches with randomized weather seeds for grinding.

Extra Battles

Rival Battles

Rival Kaia scales with your badge count and frequently mirrors your weather strategy. Expect doubles fights after badge four.
